Rights and Duties (WGBO)
When you are treated by a healthcare provider (for example a physiotherapist), you have a medical treatment contract with him or her. The Medical Treatment Contracts Act (WGBO) describes the rights and obligations that apply. Both the care provider and the patient must comply with this.
Rights and obligations of care provider
The care provider has the duty to help you and you must inform yourself about various matters. This includes:
information about your current state of health, including prospects;
the nature and purpose of the study and treatment;
the expected consequences and risks of research and treatment for your health;
other methods of research or treatment that are eligible.
Rights and duties patient
As a patient you have various rights, including:
information about your medical situation;
to decide whether you give permission for research or treatment;
access to your medical file;
free choice of doctor.
As a patient you also have obligations. This way you must inform the care provider clearly and completely. You must also cooperate as much as possible with the research and treatment.
