Manuele Therapie

Manuele Therapie

What is manual therapy?

The manual therapist has a number of specific techniques that are used in the joints. These techniques, also called manipulations and mobilisations, aim to make the joints function better. In the short term, manipulations and mobilisations have good results, in order to maintain the result, the treatment is supplemented with good instructions, posture and exercise advice and exercises.

For which complaints?

If you can move a joint badly or are in pain, manual therapy can provide a solution. Examples of complaints that a manual therapist can treat:
  • Head and neck pain, together with the poor movement of the spine;
  • Low back pain, possibly with radiating pain to the legs;
  • Certain forms of dizziness, induced by moving the neck;
  • Jaw complaints, possibly combined with neck complaints.
Joints can also have too much mobility. This can lead to instability and complaints. In this case, the manual therapist can teach you specific training advice to make your joints more stable by means of muscles.

Compensation for manual therapy

The reimbursement of manual therapy is limited by most health insurers. Depending on the policy, insured parties are entitled to a maximum of nine treatments of manual therapy per year, after which in certain cases there is still a right to reimbursement of the rate for a regular session of physiotherapy. Consult your health care provider for your personal overview.
